How to Add a New Magazine Issue (Digital Entry and Product)

This process involves creating a digital entry for the magazine, then creating the purchasable product, and finally linking the two.

Part 1: Creating the Magazine Digital Entry | Video Walkthrough

1. Navigate to "Magazines":

   • From your WordPress Dashboard, locate Magazines in the left-hand menu.

   • Click on Magazines.

2. Add New Magazine:

   • On the "Magazines" page, click the Add New Magazine button (or simply "Add New" if it's labelled that way at the top of the page).

3. Enter Magazine Title:

   • In the "Add title" field, type the title for this magazine issue (e.g., "Magazine Issue X"). It's a good idea for this to match the product name you will create later.

4. Set Magazine Featured Image:

   • On the right-hand side of the page, find the Featured image box.

   • Click on Set featured image.

   • This will open your Media Library.

     • If your image is already uploaded, click on it to select it.

     • If you need to upload a new image, click the "Upload files" tab, then "Select Files."

   • Once your desired image is selected, click the blue Set featured image button.

5. Prepare for Product Linking:

   • Scroll down the page until you find a section/field likely labeled "Product" or "Related Product."

   • Note: You will come back to this field to link the actual product after you create it in Part 2. For now, you can leave it blank.

6. Provide Magazine Content Files for Preview:

   • Important: Please provide the magazine's PDF file.

   • Alongside the PDF, please provide a directive stating the specific pages you wish to include in the preview.

   • (This information will be used by the website administrator/developer to create the interactive preview of the magazine on its dedicated page.)

7. Publish or Save Draft for Magazine Entry:

   • Scroll back to the top right of the page.

   • Click the blue Publish button (if you plan to edit and link the product immediately after creating it in Part 2) or Save Draft (if you prefer to complete product creation first).

Part 2: Creating the WooCommerce Product | Video Walkthrough

This section will walk you through the steps to add a new product to your website's online store.

1. Navigate to "Add New" Product:

   • From your WordPress Dashboard, hover over Products in the left-hand menu.

   • Click on Add New from the submenu that appears.

2. Enter Product Name:

   • In the top field that says "Product name," type in the name of your product (e.g., "Magazine Issue X").

3. Set Product Price:

   • Scroll down the page until you see the Product data section.

   • Ensure the General tab is selected (it usually is by default).

   • In the Regular price (£) field, enter the standard price for your product (e.g., 14.95).

4. Manage Inventory (Stock Quantity):

   • In the Product data section, click on the Inventory tab (located on the left side of this section).

   • Check the box next to Track stock quantity for this product.

   • A Quantity field will appear. Enter the number of items you currently have in stock (e.g., 22).

5. Set Product Image:

   • On the right-hand side of the page, find the Product image box.

   • Click on the link Set product image.

   • This will open your Media Library.

     • If your image is already uploaded, click on it to select it (a blue checkmark will appear).

     • If you need to upload a new image, click the "Upload files" tab, then "Select Files" to choose an image from your computer.

   • Once your desired image is selected, click the blue Set product image button in the bottom right of the Media Library window. The image will now appear in the "Product image" box.

6. Add Product Description (Optional but Recommended):

   • Short Description: Further down the page, below the "Product data" section, there's a box for Product short description. This is what will appear underneath the flipbook within the Issue page.

7. Publish the Product:

   • Once you've entered all the necessary information, scroll back to the top right of the page.

   • Click the blue Publish button.

Part 3: Final Linking Step - Connecting the Magazine Entry to the New Product

Now that you have created and published the WooCommerce product:

1. Return to the Magazine Entry:

   • From your WordPress Dashboard, navigate back to Magazines.

   • Find the magazine entry you created in Part 1 (e.g., "Magazine Issue X") and click "Edit."

2. Link the Product:

   • Scroll down to the "Product" or "Related Product" field (which you noted in Part 1, Step 5).

   • Click into the search box within this field.

   • Start typing the name of the WooCommerce product you just created and published.

   • A list of matching products will appear. Click on the correct product to select it. It should now appear in the field.

3. Update the Magazine Entry:

   • Scroll back to the top right of the page.

   • Click the blue Update button (or Publish if it was still a draft).

Your magazine entry is now fully set up and linked to its corresponding product.
